Major e-commerce platforms and logistics providers are actively gearing up for the upcoming holiday rush. Amazon has officially released its 2026 peak season fee structures for both Amazon Shipping and Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA).

Because Amazon Shipping fulfills orders across off-Amazon channels, including brand websites, Shopify, eBay, and TikTok Shop its rate structure can also provide a useful pricing reference for non-Amazon sellers as well.

Amazon continues to expand its logistics customer base, having consolidated previously separate international freight, overland transport, warehousing, picking/packing, and last-mile delivery into the Amazon Supply Chain Services (ASCS) in May, allowing businesses of all sizes to select services on demand.(Amazon Supply Chain Services)

Amazon Shipping Peak Season Surcharges

Amazon Shipping will implement its peak demand surcharges from October 25, 2026, through January 16, 2027. Surcharges peak between November 22 and December 26 to cover Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Christmas order volumes.(2026 Peak Season Demand Surcharges)

Compared to 2025, when standard package surcharges were $0.40, $0.60, and $0.40 across the three phases 2026 rates reflect a 25% increase across all tiers. Surcharges for Additional Handling, Oversize, and Over-Maximum packages are also higher across the board. Standard Amazon Shipping packages are capped at 50 lbs, 59 inches on the longest side, and 130 inches in length plus girth; exceeding these limits triggers the higher handling fees. Notably, for the second consecutive year, Amazon has refrained from imposing volume-growth-based surcharges, a structure used in 2024 that penalized high-volume shippers exceeding weekly baseline thresholds.

FBA and MCF Fee Adjustments

FBA and Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF) peak surcharges will run from October 15, 2026, through January 14, 2027. Amazon estimates that peak fulfillment costs will increase by an average of $0.32 per item compared to non-peak rates, with actual costs varying by product dimensions, weight, and fulfillment program. Sellers can verify exact SKU-level increases directly in Seller Central.(Amazon)

Unlike FBA's unified rate increases for Amazon marketplace orders, MCF peak surcharges adjust based on dimensions, weight, item quantity per order, and selected delivery speed. While Amazon does not set a single uniform rate for MCF, it confirmed that the peak dollar increases per tier match last year's holiday levels.

Carrier Surcharges Across FedEx, UPS, USPS, DHL, and Walmart WFS

Major US parcel carriers are increasing peak delivery fees above 2025 levels across the industry.(2026 Holiday Delivery Fees Comparison)

  • FedEx: Imposes peak surcharges from September 28, 2026, through January 17, 2027, with peak pricing between November 23 and December 27. Packages requiring additional handling face an extra $11.85 fee, oversize items incur an additional $117.25, and Unauthorized Packages face surcharges up to $595.(fedex)

  • UPS: Begins US domestic peak surcharges on September 27, alongside fee adjustments for international import and export shipments.(ups.com)

  • DHL Express: Assesses peak surcharges from October 1, 2026, through February 5, 2027, calculated based on origin, destination, and chargeable weight.(dhl.com)

  • USPS: Plans peak temporary price adjustments on Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage, and Parcel Select from October 4, 2026, to January 17, 2027. As of September 16, this proposal remains pending review by PRC.(about.usps.com)

  • Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS): Standard policy adds a $1.50 per cubic foot monthly peak surcharge on inventory stored over 30 days between October and December. However, Walmart is introducing promotional waivers covering peak storage and fuel surcharges, meaning final costs depend on individual seller account eligibility.(marketplace.walmart.com)

Strategic SKU Optimization for Merchants

Ahead of Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Christmas, merchants should audit oversized items, heavy inventory, and SKUs packaged near threshold boundaries. Because Amazon Shipping, FedEx, and UPS apply higher handling or oversize fees to packages that exceed specified limits with elevated handling fees, proactive planning is essential. Sellers should audit high-volume, low-margin, and heavy/bulky SKUs immediately to recalculate net margins under peak fulfillment rates and promotional pricing. For SKUs at risk of triggering standard carrier oversize penalties, comparing total landed costs across alternative fulfillment networks is critical.
